Activity 15: The price is right

Explanation and objectives:

The object of the game is for students to guess the price of everyday items at the grocery store. 

Materials:

  1. A sale flyer. It could be made out or taken from your local supermarket.
  2. Cover the prices or some items with post-it notes.

Instructions:

  1. Divide the group into teams of three or four students.
  2. Demonstrate the game by showing the students one item from the flyer.
  3. Ask them to work with their partners to try to estimate the price of that item without going over.
  4. Once the students get the idea, thell them the game will begin, and they will have 30 seconds to discuss possible prices with their team.
  5. The group which comes the closest to the actual price in the supermarket flyer without going over wins a point. 
  6. Then you can continue to the next item.
